Magnitude 5.3 Earthquake Strikes Off Surigao Del Norte

MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off Surigao del Norte early morning on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake's epicenter was located 14 kilometers west of Santa Monica, Surigao del Norte. The quake struck at 4:44 a.m.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, struck at a depth of 48 kilometers.
The quake is not expected to cause serious damage to properties, but aftershocks are expected.
Intensity IV was reported in Surigao City, Mayorga, Leyte, and San Juan, Southern Leyte. Intensity III was felt in Cagayan de Oro City, Butuan City and Palo, Leyte. Meanwhile, Intensity II was recorded in Cebu City.
